Do you get annoyed and/or feel inadequate when you don’t like highly rated wines? I do. You know the scene: you buy a wine with a high score (95!) on the little signs in the grocery store and you leave feeling confident, only to find when you finally open the bottle that the wine doesn’t suit you.
Why? Because your palate isn’t the same as the person who rated the wine.
The goal of My Wine Tribe is to avoid that problem entirely by creating a community of wine lovers that can help each of us find great wines likely to please our tastes.
The first step, dear reader, is to take Wine Tribe’s online quiz. The results will help you define your palate and discover which wine tribe matches best. Then check out the “Wine Picks By Tribe” section. It contains results of our monthly blind wine tastings, which provide you with customized wine recommendations based on your palate type.
(Note: I do my best to have representatives from each of the four wine tribes present at every monthly wine tasting, but it isn’t always possible. There may be tastings where the turn out for your particular tribe is low. And for that I apologize.)
Curious about the tribes? They were created based upon a range of preferences for tastes and smells; below is a summary of each:
The Accessible Tribe: You have an appreciation for delicate tastes. Light, summertime foods are likely your favorites and you shy away from overly spicy or heavy foods. You have a sweet tooth and it wouldn’t be unusual to find you eating your dessert before your meal.
The Balanced Tribe: You appreciate balance in your food, drink and life. You don’t mind exploring new tastes, but are not into extremes. If you were a fragrance you would be floral and fruity but never overpoweringly sweet.
The Developed Tribe: You have a refined palate and appreciate a variety of flavors. You don’t mind exploring new foods and wines and like to cook with lots of herbs and spices. Flavorful is the name of the game for you.
The Complex Tribe: You’re here for one of two reasons (or perhaps both). You are either the wine geek among your friends OR you appreciate big, bold and complex flavors. Your palate is quite defined and you know what you like – only the darkest of coffees, chocolates and beers for you.
